Mimi
Paul L. Stein’s period romance tells the story of a composer (Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.) whose relationship with a woman (Gertrude Lawrence) inspires his success.
Director: Paul L. Stein
Overview
Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and Gertrude Lawrence give stunning and memorable performances in this period romance from Paul L. Stein. Rodolphe (Fairbanks, Jr.) is a composer in need of motivation and inspiration – and he gets that, suddenly, when he meets Mimi (Lawrence). The two of them share a bond that drives his success to the point of both high achievements and sobering tragedy. Stein’s film is precise in its sweeping detail, but even more astute for its insights into the artistic process.
