Strip! Strip! Hooray!!! Or (Fun with the Sunbathers)
Stuffed-shirt party pooper Sir Hector infiltrates a sunbathing camp full of scantily clad jazz-swingers in this 1930s comedy
Director: Norman Lee
Overview
Jolly, juicy jazz lovers of every persuasion "sunbathe to saxophone" at the saucy Sunville camp, where "back to nature fans go gay", in this cheery comedy. So stuffy misery-guts Sir Hector - of The Wear More Clothes League - goes on a one man mission to end the "wild orgies". Meanwhile, a curious reporter strips off and joins in the poolside frolics with the carefree Sunbathers' Jazz Band.
This charming low-budget 1930s 'quota quickie' comedy - stuffed full of slightly suggestive jokes and jazz - cheerfully pokes fun at somewhat Victorian notions of public decency still prevalent in Britain at the time. Splendidly brash and bizarre, it's a perky predecessor to both the nudist films of the 1950s and the innuendo-heavy Carry On films of the 1960s. Though nobody is naked here, laid-back Sunville seems a lot like Spielplatz, the naturist village that was founded in Bricket Wood, Hertfordshire, by Charles Macaskie and his wife Dorothy, in 1929.
