Overview
Rural life in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire: the Milkmaid of the Year event; the Prince of Wales at the Royal Welsh Show, Llanelli; Llansteffan Show; horse races at Tenby; a ploughing match at 'Foxhole' farm, St. Clears, and a variety of activities at the Buckley's farm 'Castell Gorfod', Llangynin: mowing the lawn, potato laying, hay drying, a hound meet, ploughing, and 'earthing up' (i.e. building a bank for point-to-pointing).
This film was shot in the main by Lt Col W H Buckley of the Buckley's Brewery (Llanelli) family and Master of the Carmarthenshire Foxhounds. The hound meet, where a stirrup cup is enjoyed before the off, takes place at ‘Castell Gorfod’, where Buckley’s own invention – the potato laying machine – is seen in action. Buckley is recorded making the presentation to the Milkmaid of the Year and drinking a glass of the white stuff which he was not partial to and which had been made more palatable by the addition of a tot of whiskey. The Milkmaid is troubled by hounds jumping up at her, owing to the fact that her fox fur had not been properly cured and thus smelled interesting!
