Overview

This film shows London’s fire brigades competing in an annual contest, “won easily”, a caption tells us, “by the headquarters staff”. The winning team, based in Southwark, were able to raise a ladder – the old manually operated equipment looks amazing – and climb a four-storey tower to extinguish an imaginary blaze in 41 seconds. The Southwark HQ is now the London Fire Brigade Museum.
