Overview

A journey from London’s suburbs to its heart, charting the influence of the city on indie pop band Saint Etienne, soundtracked with songs from album of the same name.

London has been a source of influence, inspiration and curiosity for renowned indie pop band Saint Etienne. Inspired by films like Patrick Keiller’s London and Norman Cohen’s The London Nobody Knows, directors Paul Kelly and Kieran Evans take us on a psycho-geographic journey from the suburbs into the heart of the city over an imaginary 24 hours. Along the way we hear from characters who have influenced or been a part of the Saint Etienne story, including Mark Perry, Julian Opie, Lawrence and Vic Godard. Through the interviews and imagery we see London from an insider's perspective. The result is a hymn to London and an extraordinary record of the city today.
