Lost River
Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut is a disturbing, visually experimental fairytale about a single mother drawn into a nightmarish netherworld.
Director: Ryan Gosling
Overview
In a decaying American town, a single mother (Christina Hendricks) tries to protect her sons from pervasive corruption, but one of them (Iain De Caestecker) is drawn into a nightmarish netherworld.
The directing debut of Ryan Gosling, Lost River is a disturbing fairytale with a distinctly feminist subtext, channelling the weirdness of David Lynch, the visuals of Mario Bava and the brutality of Nicolas Winding Refn, and bolstered by a cast of cult stars including Matt Smith, Saoirse Ronan, Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes and Barbara Steele.
