Take a trip with Sam Neill through his country's celluloid culture.

Documentary 1995 52 mins

Director: Sam Neill and Judy Rymer

Overview

Sam Neil (Jurassic Park, The Piano) steers his own road movie through New Zealand's cinema. Encountering filmmakers and actors, he studies the links between the nature and geography of the country and its film culture, and considers the cultural specifics of works by Rudall Hayward and John O'Shea, Jane Campion, Peter Jackson, Lee Tamahori and others.

Includes extracts from a number of films, including Jane Campion's An Angel At My Table (1990) and The Piano (1993), Peter Jackson's Braindead (1992), Roger Donaldson's Sleeping Dogs (1977), Lee Tamahori's Once Were Warriors (1994), Vincent Ward's Vigil' (1984) and The Navigator (1988) and Peter Wells and Stewart Main's Desperate Remedies (1993).
