Workpeople Leaving Hornby's Brookhouse Mill, Blackburn (1900)

Male and female millworkers - young and old - spill out after their shift.

Non-Fiction 1900 2 mins Silent

Overview

A single shot film, like much of Mitchell and Kenyon's output, this 'factory gate' film shows the workers of a Blackburn mill heading home. Hornby's was one of the few combined spinning and weaving mills in Lancashire. Established in 1828 as a spinning mill, it soon incorporated power loom weaving. Its workforce exceeded 1400 during the 19th century,  but it ceased activity in 1932.
