West Norfolk
Youths boogie at a 70s disco in this promo for the cultural scene of a corner of East Anglia
Overview
Royal connections are stressed in an informative film designed to sell West Norfolk to tourists. Viewers are taken to the historic port town of King's Lynn as well as the Sandringham Estate. A visit from the Queen Mother is also caught on camera. But down-to-earth scenes like a sea-shanty-singalong in a pub and a youths' disco are arguably the most endearing adverts for the area.
Sponsored by the local authority and created by a King's Lynn-based production company, the video is also at pains to state the economic credentials of West Norfolk. This was a time when Britain was shifting away from its traditional industries. The history of fishing and trade in this part of the world is referenced in fond detail, but the message is always that the area is open to new business, too: note, for instance, those quaint early computers on show at the college.
