Topical Budget 378-1

Topical Budget salutes Britain's top brass in this gleefully patriotic newsreel edition, released just weeks after the First World War was won.

Non-Fiction 1918 5 mins Silent

Overview

Just weeks after the War was won, Topical Budget released this congratulatory roll call saluting Britain's top brass. We see PM Lloyd George and cabinet ministers, George V and Queen Mary at the Albert Hall and at a military parade. More poignant is the item 'British Prisoners of War Return Home', while the triumphant 'Germany Surrendering her Fleet' would surely have sent audiences out cheering.

Lloyd George's "drastic reform programme", referred to in the first item, included extending voting rights for women, raising the school leaving age to 14 and various reforms to Housing and Town Planning.
