Overview

Indian international cricketer Surinder Amarnath is interviewed after playing in a friendly match for Torquay. His father Lala Amarnath made India's first Test century on his debut, against England in Bombay in 1933-34. He produced two Test-centurion sons. Surinder scored a hundred in his first match against New Zealand in Auckland in 1975-76. Neither father nor son reached 100 in a Test again but the second son of Lala, Mohinder served India for 8 years with 11 Test tons.

Amarnath was an aggressive left-handed batsman who performed well at Indian domestic level but was rather overlooked by the Indian selectors. His brother Mohinder was a national team regular and better known and another brother, Rajinder played in 10 Test matches. At the beginning of every England domestic season many cricket clubs take on an overseas’ player-coach to bolster the playing side and help with the club although it seems Surinder has not yet cemented his place in the Torquay team.
