Leading Irish unionist Sir Edward Carson scans a small group of Lady Signallers and Ambulance Corps members gathered in Ulster in this newsreel item, shot hastily just before Carson left for London for urgent talks on the crisis. A divisive figure in Ireland, Carson had established the Protestant militia the Ulster Volunteer Force in 1912 as part of loyalist opposition to Home Rule.
