Overview

“If you care, show it” - is the message in this government promo to encourage voting in the Scottish Parliament and local government elections, a decade before the independence referendum of 2014 galvanised Scotland. A young mum in the playground and a middle-aged man visiting his mother in hospital demonstrate what’s at stake.

2003 saw the second election of the Scottish Parliament and the Labour Party remained in power, with Jack McConnell as First Minister. This government film is a public record, preserved and presented by the BFI National Archive on behalf of The National Archives, home to more than 1,000 years of British history.
