Scenes on the River Jhelum, The Chief Waterway of Srinager, The Capital of Cashmere

Impressive early tableaux at the riverbank in Srinagar

Travelogue 1903 Silent

Overview

An impressive tableaux of boats massed at harbour on the banks of the Jhelum at Srinagar from the dawn of the 20th century. These images were filmed by Reverend J Gregory Mantle, a Methodist missionary who persuaded early London film producer Charles Urban to provide him with a camera and training to film the 1903 Delhi Durbar - and also filmed some other Indian scenes, of which this is one of few to survive.
