Overview

In October 1954 Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh paid a post-Coronation visit to Tyneside. An amateur filmmaker, Jack Lawson records enthusiastic crowds lining the route to Tyne Bridge from his family’s confectionary shop on Northumberland Street, his camera catching only a fleeting glimpse of the royals. Also a director of Newcastle United FC, he films the revellers and a team mascot in the large and lively crowd as a triumphant team return with the FA Cup in 1955.
