Pimple's Part

The clownish Pimple turns thespian with inevitably chaotic results in this riotous comic fragment.

Comedy 1916 3 mins Silent

Overview

There's method (acting) in his madness! The clownish Pimple turns his talents to the dramatic arts, leading to series of comic misunderstandings in this all-too-brief but fun film fragment. Fred Evans was the most prolific film comedian in Britain in the 1910s. Only a handful of the more than 200 short comedies Evans made as lovable prankster Pimple survive, making even a short fragment like this one a precious artefact.

A popular comic routine which Evans has adopted from his music hall background is the use of the silhouette, in which an action is misunderstood in shadow but revealed as innocent in reality.
