This intriguing pair of promos for Phillips Bicycles of Smethwick have sadly lost their soundtracks, but their key message - that Phillips is "Renowned the World Over" - is clear enough. The films demonstrate the bike's appeal in Africa and offer a wonderful colour study of cycle manufacture and assembly. At the time Phillips was Britain's second-largest bicycle producer, after Raleigh.
