Manchester's Welcome to the Imperial Yeomanry (1901)

A volunteer cavalry regiment is enthusiastically welcomed home after active service in South Africa.

Non-Fiction 1901 4 mins Silent

Overview

The Imperial Yeomanry was formed in 1899, one of several volunteer regiments to fight in the Boer War. This parade marked the return home of the first recruits with an enthusiastic welcome at Manchester's Exchange Station. One over-eager child has to be held back by a policeman. As the parade passes onlookers rush forward, heedless of the traffic in their own desperation to be caught on camera.
