L.C.C. Nursery School

Work hard, play hard, rest hard - this London County Council nursery in the East End strikes the right balance.

Amateur film 1938 7 mins Silent

Overview

This delightful colour footage charts a day in the life of a London County Council nursery on Old Church Road in the East End of the capital. From laying tables and serving each other lunch to setting up and putting away camp beds for their afternoon nap, the children's behaviour is exemplary.

This film was made by Matthew Nathan, a prolific, award-winning amateur filmmaker. He specialised in travelogues such as Village Life in Somerset (1934), which is also available on BFI Player.
