In Rural Maharashtra

Happy farmers, a wedding and some giant cauliflowers...

Documentary 1945 11 mins

Overview

Described as “the land of smiling people,” rural Maharashtra is the setting of this film. In this quaint look at rural life, the roles of the smiling farmer and his wife are clearly performed by professional actors in a style reminiscent of Indian films of the time, which sits a little oddly with the documentary-style narration.

The film was produced by the Prabhat Film Comany - then one of India's leading feature film production companies - for the Films Division of the Government of India. This government film is a public record, preserved and presented by the BFI National Archive on behalf of The National Archives, home to more than 1,000 years of British history.
