Huntley and Palmer Digestive Biscuits

Liverpool and England footballer Emlyn Hughes gets nostalgic when he takes a team of aspiring youngsters through their paces

Advert 1981 1 mins

Overview

When Emlyn Hughes was a lad it was 20 a side, jumpers and Jackets for goal posts and no digestives at full time either! One of the game's most popular figures, Hughes had a cheerful, boyish personality that made him a drawer for advertisers. By 1981 he had left behind Liverpool and England and joined Rotherham United, then third division champions, as player/manager.

By the end of Hughes' first season, Rotherham were third place in the second division and narrowly missed promotion. But the following season was awful for both Rotherham and Hughes leading to the two parting company - a breakdown even a packet of digestives couldn't fix.
