Greenland Rymill 1933

Film directed by John R. Rymill showing team members with their dog sledges during the 'East Greenland Expedition 1932-33'.

Documentary 1933 7 mins Silent

Overview

This film consists almost entirely of members of the expedition travelling on, or with, their dog sledges, hauling stores across the snow. The 'East Greenland Expedition 1932-33' was planned as a continuation of the 'British Arctic Air Route Expedition 1930-1', but was scaled down after tragedy struck. There were just four members:- Gino Watkins, John R. Rymill, Frederick Chapman and Quintin Riley.

It was on this expedition on 20th August 1932 that arctic explorer, Henry George ‘Gino’ Watkins, disappeared. His upturned, empty kayak was discovered by team members, but his body was never found. John R. Rymill took over as expedition leader after his death.
