Film and Photo League: International Cooperators Day

It's all fun and games in Willesden, Chingford and Tottenham on International Co-operators' Day.

Campaigning film 1936 26 mins Silent

Overview

There's a party mood as supporters of the Co-operative movement celebrate International Co-operators' Day. Look more carefully and you'll also spot the occasional placard with slogans such as: "Let me make steel for engines and bridges - not for guns" and other signs of underlying discontent. Membership of the Co-operative movement was over 5 million in the UK at the time, and the Co-op shops were a familiar sight on many high streets.
