Overview

On the day before The Benson & Hedges Cup Final match between Essex and Surrey, in July 1979, Anglia Television take a look at Essex’ chances of taking home the trophy, in particular, focussing on the professional career of Stuart Turner, whose fellow team players describe as “spectacular in the field”.

In the semi-final Essex beat Yorkshire, playing at their County Ground in Chelmsford, winning by 3 wickets and making it to the final. On 21st July 1979 at Lord's Cricket Ground in London, the Benson & Hedges Cup final took place between Essex and Surrey. Essex won by 35 runs, and Player of the match was Graham Gooch. The umpires were Dickie Bird & Barrie Meyer.
