Battersea Park (Fun Palace outtakes)

A roller-coaster, lawn bowls and international sculpture exhibition are all covered in this short film from Battersea Park, with the power station puffing in the background.

Amateur film 1963 3 mins Silent

Overview

In 1963, Joan Littlewood was putting together a film about what Londoners did for pleasure, and this took her to Battersea Park, where she filmed the 1963 Sculpture Exhibition – including work by Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Seymour Lipton and Herbert Ferber – and the exterior of the funfair. She also filmed games of tennis and lawn bowls, and, incongruously, an old lady peeling a potato. Battersea Power Station can sometimes be seen in the background.
