Algie's Circus in Carlisle (1901)
The circus comes to town in wintery Carlisle.
Overview
These scenes of the advance guard of a modest circus riding through Carlisle's streets, accompanied by a growing crowd of citizens and children, give us a good idea of the scale of the regional touring circus show. The party includes carriages, two white horses (one carrying a dog), clowns and a band, preceded by a man with a placard advertising entertainments, including a 'Bioscope' (film) show.
