The Fall of the House of Usher
An eerie British version of the classic Poe chiller, strong enough for a rare 'H' (for Horrific) certificate.
Director: Ivan Barnett
Overview
The only film awarded an 'H' (for Horrific) certificate by the British censor in 1950, and notably featuring the screen debut of award-winning actress Gwen Watford, this little-known Poe adaptation was shot on a shoestring around the seaside town of Hastings. Despite its tiny budget, the film still generates atmospheric moments of weirdness and tension.
