The Nine Lives of Tomas Katz 15 rating

An unusual comedy about a stranger who arrives on the eve of the millennium to erase London, mankind and existence.

Comedy 2001 88 mins

Director: Ben Hopkins

Overview

On the eve of the millennium, a shape-shifting stranger arrives to erase London, mankind and the entire universe. The second feature from writer/director Ben Hopkins is a Lo-Fi take on Y2K anxiety (the dread of the dawn of the 2000s - remember that?). Channeling the acerbic surrealist humour of Monty Python, Spike Milligan and Chris Morris, with stylistic nods to Murnau and Lang, Hopkins terrific satire creates a bleakly funny portrait about the end of creation.

Features some great early performances from Tom Fisher, Ian McNiece and Toby Jones, with blink-and-you'll-miss-'em cameos from Asif Kapadia and Andrew Kötting.
