The Possibilities Are Endless
A moving and haunting account of singer Edwyn Collins’s long and difficult recovery from a stroke.
Director: Edward Lovelace and James Hall
Overview
One of the UK’s best-loved singer/songwriters, Edwyn Collins was cast adrift following a massive haemorrhagic stroke that hospitalised him for six months in 2005. Upon waking in hospital the only words he could say were ‘yes’, ‘no’, ‘Grace Maxwell’ and ‘the possibilities are endless’.
With its use of abstract images and cut-up flashbacks, directors Edward Lovelace and James Hall convey Collins' predicament in innovative style. This extraordinary documentary sensitively charts Collins’s heroic efforts as he slowly recovers, working toward performing his old songs again, and writing and recording new material.
