World War One Motor Ambulance Inspection

A curious display of new ambulance vehicles specially built for war service.

Non-Fiction 1915 1 mins Silent

Overview

In the early stages of World War I, many private cars were converted to ambulances and donated to the war effort by their wealthy owners - sometimes even with their chauffeur thrown in! Some of these conversions were carried out without consultation with the authorities and the end result caused significant problems. Subsequently the British Red Cross established the 'Standard' ambulance design.

We think this film may show the first of those 'Standards' presented for inspection. Do you know different? Can you help to identify the three gentlemen who appear to be in charge of the inspection? We'd love to hear from you.
